Message from Patron

It gives me great pleasure to write this massage on the occasion of 11th annual meeting of Pakistan Society for the Study of Liver Diseases in Islamabad. Diagnoses and management of liver diseases has come along way and in 2017 we are now discussing the elimination of Hepatitis C virus by 2030. Pakistan has still lot to achieve in this area. As far as the facilities of diagnosis and management they are now available throughout the country but a lot of work needs to be done so that patients who are suffering from liver diseases are diagnosed appropriately and managed according to standardized regimes. Many medicines are available for Hepatitis C to the world at large but only one drug out of 16 approved by FDA so far are available in Pakistan and the regulatory authorities in Pakistan need to wake up so we could effectively treat all patients suffering from hepatitis C

The Pakistan Society for the Study of Liver Disease is trying its best so that the regulatory authorities look into the availability these drugs for our patients so that they can be treated appropriately and cured of this condition. The vaccination for hepatitis B at birth has still to achieve satisfactory responses but we hope that with constant vigilance the targets could be achieved according to international standards. This conference would also highlight many other areas of liver diseases and post conference evaluation would help us to formulize strategies in order to improve the management of such patients at the grass root level.

The abstracts and papers presented by internationally recognized international and Pakistani Hepatologists would further highlight the importance of liver diseases pertaining in our region and how to best to achieve good outcomes. I wish as a patron of the society I would thank the organizers and president of the society my best wishes for this conference.
