SUMMERY

PSSLD successfully organized the Spring Symposium on “Liver Diseases in Pregnancy: Challenges & Advances” on Saturday, 26th April 2025, at the University Medical and Dental College, Faisalabad. The event continued from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM and brought together leading experts to discuss the complex interplay between liver diseases and pregnancy. The symposium opened with the Recitation of the Holy Quran and National Anthem, followed by a Welcome and Introduction by Prof. Shahid Rasool.

Session I

Session I, chaired by Prof. Sadia Khan, Prof. Zahid Yaseen Hashmi, Dr. Mohammad Salih, Prof. Mubushra Naz, and Prof. Akmal Sharif, covered a series of significant presentations. Experts including Prof. Rubina Ali, Prof. Noreen Bilal, Dr. Hajira Ghairat, Prof. Saeed Hamid, and Prof. Wasim Jafri shared insights on topics ranging from the global impact of liver diseases during pregnancy to updated recommendations on obstetric cholestasis, acute viral hepatitis, and chronic hepatitis B management in pregnant women. This session concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing participants to engage directly with the speakers before breaking for tea.

Session II

Session II, chaired by another distinguished panel of professionals including Prof. Saeed Hamid and Prof. Humaira Zafar, focused on workshop-based case discussions. Dr. Qazi Masroor, Dr. Mohammad Salih, and Prof. Shahid Rasool facilitated three detailed case studies, addressing real-world challenges and the latest advances in diagnosing and managing liver diseases in pregnant patients. Dr. Umair Shafqat, fostering practical learning and critical discussion among attendees, expertly moderated the session.

The symposium wrapped up with concluding remarks by Dr. Mohammad Salih, a vote of thanks by Prof. Akram Malik, and a shield distribution ceremony, recognizing the contributions of key facilitators and organizers, led by Prof. Amir Ali Ch., Prof. Akram Malik, and Prof. Zahid Yaseen Hashmi. Overall, the event was a highly informative and interactive platform, providing participants with updated knowledge and practical strategies for handling liver diseases during pregnancy, and reinforcing PSSLD’s commitment to advancing liver health education in Pakistan.
