Teach Pak Program 2024 Event Report

TEACH Pak Certificate Course 2024

Learning is a life-long process, and continuing medical education is a part and parcel of a physician’s profession growth and development. The Pakistan Society for the Study of Liver Diseases (PSSLD) has always been committed to the teaching and professional grooming of post-graduate trainees and general practitioners, and providing them updated knowledge on the diagnosis and management of common liver disorders. In this regard, the Society organizes an annual modular, hybrid, multi-center learning certificate course by the name of TEACH Pak (Training in Emerging Advances in Chronic Hepatitis infection in Pakistan), which includes case-based presentations by renowned national faculty. This is accompanied by face to face and online discussions. The course is free of cost, and is run simultaneously across 10 major cities of Pakistan, namely Karachi (host center), Hyderabad, Larkana, Sukkur, Bahawalpur, Multan, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi/ Islamabad, Peshawar and Quetta (all centers connected via ZOOM). Dr. Muhammad Kamran, Assistant Professor Gastroenterology, FRPMC, is the course director, with Dr. Atif Majeed (Assistant Professor Gastroenterology, The Aga Khan University Hospital) as the course co-director.

This year, the course was conducted from 8th October 2024 to 5th November 2024, and FRPMC was part of it as Karachi center, where face to face sessions were arranged. More than 400 participants registered from throughout the country to attend the course. Online preparatory material and post-module assessments were uploaded on the website portal for the candidates to access, and certificates to successful participants were distributed at the end of the course. In addition, 12 category-1 ACCME (Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education) credit hours were awarded to those candidates who fulfilled the required passing criteria (in collaboration with the department of continuing profession education, The Aga Khan University, Karachi). Top three candidates were awarded certificates and shields in the closing ceremony of the 18th annual PSSLD conference in Karachi, on 15th December 2024.

Majority of the participants were largely satisfied with the course content and quality, and felt that blended learning is an effective method of imparting medical education. Many were willing to attend such type of a course in future as well. In conclusion, the certificate course was a success, and reflected the Society’s relentless commitment and dedication towards disseminating knowledge and awareness regarding chronic liver disease.
