WEBINAR: LIVER DISEASES IN PREGNANCY IN COLLABORATION WITH BOLAN MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

PSSLD organized a webinar on “Liver Dideases in Pregnancy” in collaboration with Bolan Medical University on 21st November, 2021. Dr. Malik Achakzai, Assistant Professor at Bolan Medical Complex Hospital moderated this webinar. Prof. Sharbat Khan, HOD at Bolan Medical University Quetta; Dr. Faisal Saud Dar, Liver Transplant Surgeon at Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) in Lahore; and Prof. Farrukh Saeed, HOD at Gastroenterology Military Hospital in Rawalpindi chaired this webinar. The panelist’s member were Prof, Zaigham Abbas, HOD at Dr. Ziauddin University Karachi and Prof. Dr. Ayesha Siddique, HOD of Gastroenterology at Civil Hospital in Quetta. The session discussed in detail the causes and prevention of Liver diseases in pregnancy. A huge number of people from all over Pakistan attended this active webinar.

The moderation was done by the Prof. Yang Ling from the Wuhan University Hospital China. The agenda of the webinar was to evaluate the application of ElastopGraphy in the diagnosis of Liver diseases. Many participants from all over the globe actively participated in this vibrant Hisky Webinar and appreciated the speakers and the organizers for conducting such a valuable session.

13TH SAASL INTERNATIONAL WEBINAR ON “FATTY LIVER” PART II SOUTH ASIAN ASSOCIATION FOR STUDY OF THE LIVER (SAASL) IN COLLABORATION WITH EUGA

South Asian Association For The Liver (SAASL) organized a webinar on “Fatty Liver’ as a part of 13th SAASL International Webinar. In collaboration with European Urogynaecological Association (EUGA), the session was held successfully on 25th September 2021. Prof. Shivram Prasad Singh, president of SAASL, moderated the session. Besides, Dr. Zaigham Abbas, Head of Department Hepato-Gastroenterology from Dr. Ziauddin University Hospital In Pakistan, and Prof. Manul-al-Mehtab, General Secretary SAASL co-chaired this informative webinar. The speakers presented on the Fatty Liver diseases, NAFLD, their treatment and the latest developments to control these diseases in Asia. Dr. Sheikh Muhammad Fazle Akbar, General Secretary at Eurasian Gastroenterology Association; Dr. Pajna Anirvan, SCB Medical College and University in India; Dr. Sanjaya K. satapathy, Medical Director at Northshore University of Hospital in USA; Prof. Hasan Ozkan, President of Eurasian Gastroenterology Association.

WHAT IS NEW IN HEPAPTITIS DELTA SEPTEMBER 11, 2021

İSTÜN, İstanbul Sağlık ve Teknoloji Üniversitesi, organized a symposium on the new variant of Hepatitis that is Hepatitis Delta on 11th September 2021. It was a hybrid symposium where a number of people from all over the world were invited to join this informative webinar. Prof. Necati Ormeti, İSTÜN Vice Rector for healthcare & Dean of the faculty of Medicine, and Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Halil Bahceciglu who is a member of Firat University Faculty of Medicine Inst. were the moderators at this symposium. On the other hand, Prof. Dr. Mario Rizetto from Italy; Dr. Gulnera from Azerbaijan; Dr. Zaigham Abbas, then President of PSSLD; Prof. Dr. Heiner Wedemeyer; and Prof. Dr. Cihan Yurdaydin from Turkey spoke on epidemiology, history and the Treatment of HDV. The session was closed with the discussion on Hepatitis Delta by the participants, speakers and the moderators.

15th ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF PSSLD 2021

PSSLD organized its 15th Annual conference of PSSLD 2021 from 3rd to 5th December at Serena Hotel Islamabad. The hybrid conference was arranged keeping in view the current pandemic situation. So that people, who cannot not attend conference personally, can attend it virtually via PSSLD app and Facebook from the comfort of their home. “Hepatology in changing Times” was the theme of 2021 annual conference. The program of conference consisted of Post-graduate courses (symposiums), Workshops, Poster presentations and Oral presentations by the speakers, academics and specialists. Moreover, the cash prizes were distributed among the winners. Many national and international faculty members participated in this vibrant conference, sharing their invaluable experience and research findings with the participants. The conference huge appreciation and acknowledgment from all the collaborators, experts and the participants.

POST GRADUATE COURSES
The conference planned 10 post0graduate courses to increase awareness on different liver diseases, hepatitis and cirrhosis. With the aim to eliminate Hepatitis by 2030, many national and international speakers delivered highly valuable post graduate courses for the young doctors and professionals. Each course was moderated by a different moderator. The symposiums were actively participated by the participants from 3rd to 5th December, with all the conference halls packed with the listeners, illustrating the wide interest of the audience.

WORKSHOPS
On the 5th of December, two exclusive workshops were organized to discuss views of experts on HBV in Pregnancy and Hepatocellular Carcinoma. One workshop was conducted by Dr. Arif Amir Nawaz and his team on ‘Liver Disease and Pregnancy’. He was helped in this by Dr. Rizwana Chaudry. The second workshop was conducted by Dr. Zahid Azam and Dr. Asif Baig on ‘Hepatocellular Carcinoma’.

Moreover, the cash prizes in different categories were also distributed by Dr. Zaigham Abbas during the closing ceremony. These special cash prizes were dedicated for the winners of Poster presentations and Oral presentations. Here is the list of the winners.

WORLD DIGESTIVE HEALTH DAY-2021: OBESITY AN ONGOING PANDEMIC

PSSLD celebrated the WORLD DIGESTIVE HEALTH DAY-2021 on 23rd May, 2021. Based on OBESITY AN ONGOING PANDEMIC that was the theme of this year’s World Digestive Health Day, the Express Media Group hosted a webinar in collaboration with PSSLD that was appreciated widely and joined by a majority of Gastroenterologists, experts and medical students from across Pakistan. The session was moderated by the Dr. Zaigham Abbas, who is the president of PSSLD and the Head of Department of Gastroenterology at Dr. Ziauddin University Hospital in Karachi. He explained that the obesity is spreading rapidly like a pandemic all over the world including Pakistan. Other speakers like Dr. Shahid Rasool from Madina Hospital Faisalabad attributed the major cause of diabetes to fatty liver. At the end of session, Dr. Zaigham Abbas thanked the valuable participants and the Express Media Group, urging them to arrange the similar events in the future to stress the need to help eliminate liver diseases. Moreover, Dr. Zaigham Abbas concluded the session with the remarks to change our lifestyle and diet to avoid obesity that results in chronic liver diseases.

10th SAASL WEBINAR ON LIVER DISEASES AND COVID-19 (PART-1)

On 26th June, 2021, South Asian Association for the Study Of Liver (SAASL) hosted a webinar in collaboration with PSSLD. Professor Vivek A. Saraswat from India, who is the head of department of Gastroenterology at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute (SGPGI) in Lucknow chaired this event. Dr. Amna Subhan Butt, Associate Professor at the department of gastroenterology of Aga Khan University Hospital and the General Secretary of PSSLD moderated the session. Professor Zaigham Abbas, Professor Rakhi Maiwall from ILBS in India and Dr. Sanjiv Saigal who is Principal Director and Head of Hepatology and Liver Transplant Medicine at Max Super Specialty Hospital in India discussed hepatitis and its different types during covid-19. Professor Syed Muhammad Zahid Azam from the Dow University of Health Sciences, Professor Amit Goel from the SGPGI of Medical Sciences in India, Dr. Ali Nazeem, Senior Consultant in Medicine from Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Maldives and Dr. Achini Diana Withanachchi Consultant at General Hospital in Sri Lanka were the panelists of this webinar. Many people from around the world joined this session and appreciated the speakers for spreading awareness via this informative webinar.

WORLD HEPATITIS DAY, 2021 with Jang Group

PSSLD organized the World Hepatitis Day Seminar in collaboration with Jang, Geo, and MKRMS at Karachi. The theme of this seminar was HEP CAN’T WAIT.
Renowned gastroenterologists and hepatologists discussed the growing number of hepatitis cases in Pakistan, stressing the need to get tested immediately.
All the participants appreciated PSSLD and Jang group for organizing such an informative seminar in Karachi.

World Hepatitis Day 2019

PSSLD observed the World Hepatitis Day 2019 on 28th July, 2019 at Serena Hotel in Islamabad. A number of gastroenterologists and Hepatologists gave presentation on the “HEPATITIS SHOULD BE ELIMINATED GLOBALLY BY 2030”. Awareness walks, blood screening test for Hepatitis and seminars were conducted in different parts of Pakistan in a joint collaboration with PSSLD.
A number of people joined these sessions all over Pakistan and appreciated the efforts of PSSLD to spread awareness and for taking on the mission of hepatitis-free Pakistan by 2030.
